The first new-built Holiday Inn hotel opened on 1^st October 2009 in Pattaya, Thailand. The 367-room property is located along the popular Beach Road in North Pattaya. The hotel is only a 90-minute drive from the Suvarnabhumi Airport and a 120-minute drive from central Bangkok. Holiday Inn Pattaya offers extensive meetings and recreational facilities, with five food & beverage outlets including a retro-cuban lounge and a modern Italian restaurant in an idyllic location overlooking Pattaya Bay.

Holiday Inn is owned by the Erawan Group, and managed by the IHG Group who currently operates eight hotels in Thailand under the InterContinental and Holiday Inn brands.

Mega Bangna

In Sep 2009, Siam Future Development Plc together with IKEA held a signing ceremony for a joint venture “Mega Bangna”, a 10,000 Baht million project featuring a Lifestyle Home Furnishing Centre with IKEA for the first time in Thailand. The project will sit on a 290 rais plot of land along Bangna- Trat Road.

Located on Bangna-Trad Km.9, Kanchanaphisek Outer Ring Road, Mega Bangna is designed with a new concept of a one-stop mall of various products and services. Anchor tenants including the much waited for IKEA Store, (40,000m²), a department store, branded lifestyle fashion, restaurants, IT centre, ultimate entertainment centre, and a very large parking lot capable of accommodating 8,000 cars. Mega Bangna is predicted to officially open in the third quarter of 2011, with a target of attracting over 40 million visitors per year.

The Gautrain, South Africa

The Gautrain is a state-of-the-art rapid rail network in Gauteng. The rail connection comprises of two links, namely a link between Pretoria and Johannesburg and a link between OR Tambo International Airport and Sandton. Apart from the three anchor stations on these two links, seven other stations will be linked by approximately 80 kilometres of rail along the route. The three anchor stations will be located at: OR Tambo International Airport; Pretoria.

This modern train will offer international standards of public transport with high levels of safety, reliability, predictability and comfort. Travelling at maximum speeds of 160 to 180 kilometres per hour it will reach Pretoria from Johannesburg in less than 40 minutes. The minimum frequency between Johannesburg and Pretoria will initially be six trains per hour per direction and it will operate approximately 18 hours per day. This public transport service will include dedicated, exclusive bus services to transport passengers to and from stations.

Besides the commuter service, air passengers will have a dedicated service between OR Tambo International Airport and Sandton. This purpose-designed service brings Gauteng in line with global practice which links cities by rail to international airports. The trip between the airport and Sandton station will take less than 15 minutes.

National Energy Complex, Thailand

The Energy Complex, completed in 2009, is a new landmark in the energy industry in Thailand offering the latest in energy-saving and green building technology. The complex is located on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road and consists of two grade A office buildings of 36 and 25 stories, one service building, and two parking garages. The total space of approximately 300,000m² within this project is occupied by companies related to the energy industry. An office of the Ministry of Energy is also situated here.

Apart from its unique building architecture, the Energy Complex has been well designed to meet the standards of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system for new constructions, in order to save energy and be environmentally friendly. The aerodynamic shape of its façade will help reduce the temperature and heat on the building’s surface. The buildings have also been designed to withstand earthquakes measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, that are 200 kilometres away on the fault line in Kanchanaburi. High-tech building management systems have also been installed.

Furthermore, retail space and facilities including a fitness centre, business centre, seminar rooms, an auditorium for 30-500 people, an exhibition room, restaurants, a 1,000-seat food court, banks, a roof garden, an outdoor exercise area, and parking for around 3,700 vehicles, have been provided for workers and visitors.

Hansa Residence, Bangkok

The Hansa Residence, designed by renowned architects from WOHA Designs & Tandem Architects (Thailand) and developed by the Hansa Residence Company Limited, is located along Ratchadamri Road, Soi Mahadlek Luang II behind the Four Seasons Hotel. It is a 45 storey rental apartment tower with 251 compartment units. At a total height of 193 metres, it is one of the tallest residential buildings in Bangkok. Construction started in July 2006, and project was completed in April 2009.

The mechanical engineers selected Flamebar BW11 to provide all the 2-hour rated smoke extraction ducting systems for the project.

Siam Kempinski Hotel, Bangkok

DTAC Office Centre, Thailand

Thailand’s second largest mobile operator DTAC officially opened its new 1 billion Baht headquarters in Chamchuri Square on 10 Sep 2009, positioning itself as a world-class service centre and signaling a new era of business growth. Located on the 22nd to 41st floors, DTAC relocated all 3,200 employees from the Chai Building on Vibhavadi Road and its other four office buildings to the site at the Sam Yan intersection, south of Chulalongkorn University.

The 10-year lease contract covers 61,160m² – the largest single-company office transaction in several years, (for office space and a call centre). DTAC now has two call centres in Bangkok, plus one in Chiang Mai, with a total of 3,000 employees. Thana Thienachariya, chief commercial officer, said DTAC also expected “many of its employees would save valuable travelling time and better serve clients.”.
